They started Edgartown Air and would fly private charters. Jackie Onassis,
Caroline & John Kennedy, James Taylor, and Dan Akroid, to name a few,
soon they became regular flyers. The airline grew and had scheduled flights to
the Vineyard, Nantucket, Boston and New Bedford. He had a way of making
all his passengers feel safe and would manage a smile or 2 during the
flights. I remember his little speech he'd give to the newly boarded
passengers. " This trip should take approximately 14 minutes, IF it's
any SHORTER, you may use your seats as a floatation device." Then
he'd pull out a box of Tic Tacs and pass it around for their IN FLIGHT
meal! In time they merged with Cape Air which is said to be the
inspiration for the television sitcom " Wings".
Dan Wolf & Mike
Mike still continued to fly even though he was an owner because that's what he loved.
Unfortunately, Mike developed a heart problem that grounded him. It
was time to sell out and start a new road in life. That took him to New
Hope, Pa where he started New hope Equipment Co and got his license to
pilot a Paddle wheeler. His love for his girls made him to decide to move
once again. Sooo, off they went to Tuscaloosa, AL. They bought a beautiful
Paddle wheeler, The Bama Belle and started giving dinner & sight
seeing cruises.
Life was good! Mike was a proud grandpa, his daughters were living close by, he loved what he was doing. He joined the Ham radio club, enjoyed his woodshop, model trains, played with his radio controlled planes, was a storm spotter and was in the process of training a new Captain, Tiffany, so he would now have time to enjoy doing the things he loved.
